Health & Safety

Sterilizing Your Equipment, It is important that you keep all your implements and work-space clean and sterilized to prevent cross infection. You can buy yourself an autoclave to heat your tools to such a temperature that it destroys any bacteria or you can immerse your tools in a sterilizing liquid like Barbicide.

·  Wash hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap and hot water

·   Pre-Disinfect and/or Sterilize instruments and store in COVERED container

·   Clean linens or disposable towel under model/client’s head

·   Disposable items used only once (not re-used if dropped). This includes micro swabs, cotton rounds/squares, spoolies/mascara      wands, flocked applicators, Q-Tips, under eye pads and the like. No cross contaminating by using the same disposable for both eyes

·   Keep your work station clean and disinfected

·   Disinfected or disposable adhesive surface a glue ring works well for this

·   Sanitize hands as needed with alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Rub until all surfaces have been covered. (I.E. after touching cell phone, rubbing nose or picking up an item which fell on ground)

·   Apply under eye covering approx. About 1cm from lower lid membrane.

·   Apply eyelash extension approx. 1mm from lid and never touching skin with adhesive or extension.

·   Gentle pressure when resting on model/client’s face and eyes.

·   Only apply extensions to lashes on the upper lashes.

·   If the adhesive gets on the client’s skin, remove it with the remover, and then immediately rinse with water. The adhesive should not cause skin irritation, but because individuals have different levels of sensitivity, precaution should always be taken.

·   Under no circumstances should the adhesive get into your client’s eyes, but if this does occur, flush with eye rinse and advise them to seek medical attention if irritation continues.

·   If several lashes get stuck together, gently try to separate them with your tweezers. If this fails, use lint free applicators dipped in adhesive remover to separate them. Take care not to get any adhesive remover in the eye or on the eyelid, as it may cause irritation. Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for additional information.

Make sure not to reuse any of the eye pads, forceps, mascara wands, gloves, masks……. Make sure you take necessary steps to clean all tools that are to be reused.

1. Be careful when applying the eye pads, it should be placed over the lower lashes about 1 cm away from the inner eye. Placing the patch too close to the eye can cause shifting and can possibly scratch the cornea and cause irritation or allergic reactions. It can also cause a reaction as there are ingredients that can cause the eye irritation.

2. Do not allow the client to open their eyes during procedure.  After the application steam their lashes with a Nano mister, this will cure the glue and speed up the dry time.

3. Having a humidifier in the lash room is beneficial to the application process, high humidity will speed the glue dry time, lower humidity will slow the dry time.

4. Place separating film, tape, or pads on the lower lashes to prevent the lashes from being glued together.

5. Sanitize instruments between each client. Do not reuse any of the application accessories, lashes or gloves.

6. Recognize and prevent conjunctivitis, which is common in women who have contact with small children. Symptoms include redness, discharge, itching and burning. Conjunctivitis is spread by contacting a contaminated surface or object and then touching the eyes.

7. Be sure the client is not wearing contacts during the procedure, if they are, have them remove the contacts and put them in their own container or supply them with a clean container they can take home. Wearing contacts during the procedure can cause irritation and chemical burns. The fumes can get trapped under the contact and cause a chemical burn.

Wearing a Mask If you choose to a mask will help protect you from the fumes from the adhesive are very strong and can have quite a negative effect on your health if you don't take precautions. They need to be allergy masks not just the paper ones and ventilate your room as well as you possibly can.
